The program aims to promote and strengthen cooperation programs between the world's rubber growers and harvesters, aiming at the sustainable and efficient development of the world's natural rubber industry in general and member states in particular.

From 2011, the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) has proposed and developed a roadmap as well as a detailed plan for the implementation of the International Rubber Seed Exchange Program in large scale among IRRDB member states (multilateral and bilateral exchanges). The exchange program has been hold by Member States and implemented since the end of 2014.
Exchange of information among IRRDB member countries on assessment of growth, latex yield, wood yield, disease resistance and biological (drought, cold, storms, etc) of rubber varieties are traded on different planting sites in all member countries.
The program also aims to improve the research capacity of the rubber breeders in IRRDB member countries.
Progress and results
The International Rubber Breeding Exchange is being discussed for the first time at a meeting of the Rubber Research Group organized by the IRRDB in Thailand from September 12th to 14th in 2014.
Detailed discussion on the list of rubber varieties to be discussed, implementation schedule, relevant legal and technical procedures, identification manual, methodology for experimental design and performance of varieties. Exchanges in the International Rubber Variety Exchange Program were discussed at IRRDB Seed Research Groups
A total of 49 rubber varieties from 12 IRRDB member countries will be traded in the international exchange program, of which 24 rubber varieties are currently being promoted.
Cambodia does not have the same breed but will be seeded from other countries when they exchange the same breed with CIRAD - France (represented by Ghana) for 5 SALB resistant varieties.
