Global platform for sustainable natural rubber

Members of the global platform for sustainable natural rubber attended the First Congress and elected the Executive Committee, through the Rules and Code of Conduct on 21 March in Singapore. The Executive Committee consists of 39 members of 5 member groups.

Participating pioneers of the global platform for sustainable natural rubber (GPSNR: Global Plalform for Sustainable Natural Rubber), established in October 2018, includes 11 leading tyre businesses with consumption up to 65 % of world natural rubber production. This platform is one of the activities of the TIP: Tire Industry Project of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD: World Business Council for Sustainability) which was launched in November 2017.

To determine the right action plan for the sustainable development of natural rubber - an important source of materials for the tyre industry, TIP has mobilized the participation of stakeholders in cooperation for the sake and dynamics. Each party's strength and experience in the supply chain aims to bring success to this Platform. By early 2019, the Platform had 39 members, including tyre manufacturers, rubber suppliers, car manufacturers and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). 5 member groups are as follows:

Natural rubber producers, processors and entrepreneurs (10 members) Halcyon Agri Corporation, ITOCHU Corporation, Kirana Megatara, MARDEC, PRASIDHA, SIPEF, SIPH, Socfin Group, Southland Global, Thai East.

Car manufacturers, who use other ding rubber products (3 members): BMW Group, Ford Motor Company, General Motors.

Tyre manufacturers and rubber buyers (12 members): Bridgestone, Continental AG, Cooper, Goodyear, Hankook, Kumho, Michelin, Nokian, Pirelli, Sumitomo, Toyo, Yokohama.

Civil society, non-governmental organizations (11 members): BirdLife International, Conservation International, HCV Resource Network, FSC, Mighty Earth, PEFC, Rainforest Alliance, Resourcetrust Network, SNV, World Resources Institute, WWF.

Associate members (3 members): Tanintharyi rubber producers and growers Association (TRRPPA), ProForest, Control Union.

The Executive Board will develop harmonized standards for sustainable natural rubber based on the basic principles of respect for human rights, prevention of forest land occupation and deforestation, protection of biodiversity and water resources, improve productivity and increase supply chain transparency and traceability.
